Getting to the TNT Mining Claim

The coordinates are 44.421 -120.553.

TnT is just past the “White Fir Spring Agate Beds.” The distance from Prineville is approximately 29 miles.

Take 26 east from Prineville to the Ochoco National Forest sign. Left at the sign to White Fir Spring at MP (milepost) 41, USFS (US Forest Service) Rd. 3350. At 3/10 of mile stay to the left on USFS Rd 3350.

About 7/10 of mile in, USFS Rd 3350 forks, the right-hand fork becomes USFS Rd 3350-200. Do not take the -200 fork! Follow this up the hill for 4.3 miles to the White Fir Spring “Agate Beds” sign. Past the sign is a sharp right turn, distance from here is 1.2 miles. From here go to the next road to the left, you will see the pit on your left at the turn. If you go too far, you will end up at the White Rock Spring campground, so backtrack to the previous intersection. You need a 2WD Pickup, SUV, or a 4WD if the roads are really wet. During dry weather we made it in a standard Subaru. The last mile is pretty rugged and full of large potholes. The coordinates are 44.421 -120.553.

WHERE TO STAY

The White Rock Spring campground is a small camping spot close to this claim. It is a pretty nice spot & free. There is an outhouse, and otherwise it is dry camping. Lots of folks who go to our claim use it. Another place is the Ochoco Reservoir which has showers & is about 30 to 40 mins away & you can go swimming weather permitting. You can also take kayaks & go to the south side of the reservoir where there is a decent rock hounding site.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

20 acres to explore!

As far as digging at TnT goes, good small eggs & some midsize eggs with purple crystals have been found. You might try scouting the north of the road, as the south side of the road had been worked heavily for years. DO NOT undercut trees!
