Rock Cutting
We cut slabs, thundereggs, and specimens at our club lapidary shop. The cutting rate for non-members is $1.50 per linear inch (e.g., cutting a 4″ thunderegg costs $6.00). Turnaround time depends on your order size and the current queue. To drop off your order, visit our calendar, choose a “Lap Shop” event that fits your schedule, and contact the shift host at the number provided. They will share further details.
Member Commission Work
Mt. Hood Rock Club does not provide polishing services, and we currently do not have any members actively offering commission work. However, joining the club is an excellent way to learn how to cut and polish your own specimens!
Membership includes a free visit to our fully equipped Lapidary Shop, where experienced instructors can guide you through polishing and cutting techniques. After your first free session, additional visits are just $10 per session, making it one of the most affordable ways to gain hands-on lapidary experience.
Additionally, club meetings provide an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow rockhounds, share knowledge, and get recommendations from experienced members. If you’re interested in learning more, check out our Prospective Members page!
